RSS Feeds

What is RSS?

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. It's an XML file that can be read by special feed reading software or a web service you can use from your web browser. Put the address of one of our web feeds into your reader, and it will display the list of latest addition to our photo collection with links that will take you to image data.

Feeds are updated whenever new content is published. That way feeds offer an easy way to keep up to date with If Images ever growing collection of high resolution Royalty-Free and Rights Managed images available for download.

Getting Started with RSS

How do you start using RSS feeds? In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader or RSS aggreagator. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want. Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.

How do I get a RSS Reader?

There is a range of different RSS readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different RSS readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice. Some of most popular ones include FeedDemon and Newz Crawler for Windows, NetNewsWire for Mac OS X and My Yahoo!, NewsGator and Bloglines for Web. One of the most popular email clients, Mozilla Thunderbird, includes built-in RSS reader.
